Deputy Prime Minister and Transport and Communications Minister Grozdan Karadjov said that under the 2026 draft budget, infrastructure projects are not at risk of being cut for now. He got acquainted with the implementation of a project for the construction of a railway junction in Plovdiv on Tuesday.

Social spending is important and must be preserved, but infrastructure cannot be abandoned, as the residents of Plovdiv, Ruse, Burgas, Sofia are waiting for projects to be completed, he stressed, adding that abandoning infrastructure makes people poorer. "Let a final agreement be reached on the budget between employers, trade unions and the government, and then I will be able to give a final answer," he said, promising that all projects will be implemented by the end of 2029.

Karadjov said that Tunnel 2 on the railway line between Elin Pelin and Kostenets in Western Bulgaria remains problematic, as there is a very serious problem with its design. Scientific studies have found out that the tunnel is located in tectonic layers and is shifting, requiring reinforcement with supports that are several times more expensive and heavier. А new tender procedure will be required, which will delay the tunnel's completion.
