site.btaTISP Leader: Parliament Did the Right Thing with Fuel Legislation, Opposition Endangered Citizens
Bulgaria’s National Assembly acted “correctly and decisively” to prevent fuel shortages, Slavi Trifonov, leader of the There Is Such a People party, said in a Facebook post on Friday, sharply criticizing opposition parties for opposing the legislation.
He praised MPs for adopting amendments to the Act on Administrative Regulation of Economic Activities Associated with Oil and Petroleum Products, which broaden the rights of the future special commercial administrator in the Lukoil Neftochim refinery in Burgas - saying that the legislators thus ensured the uninterrupted supply of gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel.
He accused opposition parties of working against the public interest. “The truth is that today the opposition acted directly against all Bulgarian citizens. If this law had not been passed, in about fifteen days we would have faced empty gas stations. Who would have been to blame then? Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria? Vazrazhdane? The other opposition parties?” he wrote on Facebook.
Calling the sudden fuel crisis “unexpected,” Trifonov said the ruling majority had no choice but to act to safeguard Bulgarians. “Over 60% of our fuel comes from the Burgas refinery. Everything had to be done to protect the peace of mind of citizens. It was undeniably the right move,” he added.
