Foreign Ministry in Sofia Issues
Travel Advisory for
Catalonia amid Clashes
Sofia, October 17 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry issued a travel advisory for Catalonia on Thursday. It warns that the tensions are expected to escalate in the coming days between protestors and law enforcers in the Spanish autonomous community of Catalonia and its capital Barcelona, while a general strike is expected on Friday.
The blocked roads, motorways and airports are complemented by a new wave of political protests, including student marches, street clashes, building barricades, setting fires on the streets and continuous demonstrations around government buildings, located in the busy tourist areas of Catalonia's cities, the travel advisory says.
There is a huge risk that clashes and violence will occur at the tourist sites with the main attractions, the Ministry warns.
The Ministry advises Bulgarian citizens to refrain from traveling to Catalonia for non-emergency purposes before and during the general strike scheduled for Friday, while local Bulgarian residents or tourists are advised to avoid areas where protests are held. LN/MY
