Largest Police Trade Union Mulls Staging Protests over Police Budget Economies

Sofia, September 9 (BTA) - The Trade Union Federation of Interior Ministry Employees - the largest police trade union, issued a press release in which the trade union voices its concerns about acts by part of the Interior Ministry leadership, which the trade union says "not only discriminate employees but pose a risk to their lives in the name of economising budget resources".

The trade union has established that dozens of border police officers have not been paid due money exceeding 120,000 leva for overtime in May-April 2015.

The trade union also writes about problems in fire safety where crews with an insufficient number of members work. There have been separate occasions when only one fire-fighter covers eight-hour shifts starting at midnight. The trade union notes that such rotas have been made in the busiest fire protection time when many fires break out daily. The trade union is concerned that the understaffed rotas were only made in this way in a bid to save several hours of overtime.

The trade union warned that it will consider taking concrete measures, including protest rallies.
