Competition Watchdog Finds MUSICAUTOR Abused Dominant Position in National Radio Dispute

Sofia, June 26 BTA) - The Commission for Protection of Competition announced on Monday that collective rights management society MUSICAUTOR has abused its dominant position in terminating its contract with the Bulgarian National Radio.

MUSICAUTOR prevented the national broadcaster from competing efficiently on the broadcasting market and from discharging its obligations set forth by law.

The two sides have 30 days to submit written objections to the findings and have the right to be given an open hearing by the Commission.

In early 2017, MUSICAUTOR banned the national radio from playing contemporary music in a dispute over copyright fees.

On June 20, BNR and the MUSICAUTOR signed an agreement to resolve the dispute.
