site.btaSW State Enterprise: Fire in Pirin Mountain Causes Damages Worth BGN 16 Mln

The damage from the fire in Pirin Mountain are estimated at over BGN 16 million, the South-West State Enterprise (SWSE) said on Thursday.

The fire, which broke out on July 25 and lasted for more than a month, led to enormous damage, including environmental damage, damage to nature and social damage as well, the SWSE stressed, adding that 1,345 employees with 443 vehicles participated in extinguishing the fire. According to data from the SWSE, over 1.7 hectares of forest devastated by the peak fire have been irretrievably lost.

The burned wood will be recovered, the areas cleaned, and afforestation with suitable tree species will be carried out in places where the forest will not be able to regenerate naturally, the SWSE emphasized.
