Students from the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) will be working on ideas to solve four serious municipal problems, Sofia City Hall said on its website.

Ivan Vassilev, Sofia Deputy Mayor for Finance and Health and Sofia City Hall's new representative at the UNWE Board of Trustees, met with students from various programmes at the university to discuss four municipal problems that the administration of Mayor Vassil Terziev has the ambition to deal with: waste collection, waste utilization, and the problems with Vitosha mountain and the Toplofikacia Sofia district heating system.

The students will work in four thematic groups and each will use what they have learned in the fields in which they are studying, including International Economic Relations, Finance, Accounting, and Business Economics. The partnership between the university and Sofia City Hall will give the administration the opportunity to look at problems through the eyes of young people, as well as for the students to understand more about how the administration works from the inside, the municipal administration said.

"Our vision is to make Sofia a clean and green city, to make Vitosha mountain an attractive place for all-year tourism, to turn Toplofikacia Sofia into a company with sustainable management that can provide good services at affordable prices," said Vassilev. On all topics, the students from UNWE will have the opportunity to ask questions that arise during their joint work.

The students with the best ideas will have the opportunity to spend their summer internships in the municipal administration or in the companies whose problems they are trying to solve.
