A youth centre will be built in Smolyan with funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), the municipal press centre said Wednesday. It will be housed in a former technical school that was severely damaged by a fire.

Deputy mayor Marin Zahariev told BTA that a public tender for the selection of a contractor for the future centre is to be announced soon, and construction work could start in the summer season.

Smolyan Municipality signed a grant agreement under the Construction of Youth Centres procedure under the National Youth Programme. The project is worth BGN 3.7 million, with BGN 3.2 million provided by NRRP and BGN 452,000 in national co-financing.

The focus in the work of the youth centre will be initiatives and trainings in the field of digital literacy and entrepreneurial skills. NGOs with experience in youth activities will be involved as partners to the centre.
