site.btaForum in Pleven Explores Investment and Knowledge Transfer for Northwest Bulgaria

Pleven has the potential to become a key engine of modernization and economic growth in Northern Bulgaria, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) Vice President Prof. Emanuel Mutafov said at the opening on Monday of a two-day regional forum titled "Priority Investment Projects and Knowledge and Technology Transfer as a Driver of Integrated Development in Northwest Bulgaria".

Mutafov argued that "knowledge transfer" is a more appropriate concept than innovation alone, saying that sustainable economic development must rest not only on technological progress but also on cultural heritage, education, and spiritual values. He added that the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences' regional academic centres would take a more active role in local initiatives, acting as a bridge between scientific research and regional development.

The forum's opening day focuses on transport infrastructure, water security, and investment in industrial zones as key tools for reducing regional disparities. Discussions on the second day will centre on education and culture.

The event has brought together representatives of regional and municipal authorities, universities, research institutes, schools, businesses, industry associations, and non-governmental organizations. It is organized by the Northwest Educational, Scientific, Innovation and Technology Hub in partnership with two regional innovation centres of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
