Kardzhali Mayor and Deputy Chair of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Erol Emin Mumun was taken in for questioning at the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry, the municipal press centre told BTA on Thursday.

MRF supporters gathered outside the Regional Police Directorate building in support of the mayor. Among those present were Kardzhali Municipal Council Chair Muharrem Muharrem, Deputy Mayor Tunjai Shukryu, and municipal employees.

MRF MP Bayram Bayram told BTA that Mumun had been summoned for questioning and formally served with a notice. He also said that police officers were present inside the municipal building.

The MRF is expected to issue an official statement on the case.
