site.btaRazgrad Municipality Plans to Expand Bicycle Network, Complete Construction of Cycling Infrastructure

Razgrad Municipality has announced plans to expand its cycling network and continue improving local biking infrastructure, the Municipality told BTA on Monday.

At present, the town's cycling system consists of seven segments, some of which are already connected, with a total length of 4,565 metres. As part of the Around the Beli Lom River project, funded through the Regions in Growth Operational Programme, new bike lanes will be constructed along April Uprising Boulevard. These additions will link important parts of the town and connect the urban network to the Pchelina route. A separate initiative also envisions extending a cycling lane along Dunav Street. The overall objective is to establish a seamless and integrated bicycle network, the Municipality noted.

Razgrad currently has one official cycling club, called Sprint, which is affiliated with the Bulgarian Cycling Federation. The Municipality supports the club financially each year based on its performance and also provides extra funding for hosting competitions, including national championship events and the revived Dencho Denev Cup. Individual athletes with notable achievements are likewise awarded bonuses.

Members of the Sprint cycling club, along with other cyclists, will attend the opening of the Giro d'Italia in Nessebar on May 8. On the same day, team coach and national competitor Miroslav Minchev will lead the Municipality's annual cycling tour of EU-funded sites in Razgrad.
