A new centre for day care for adults with disabilities opened in Sofia on Tuesday. It is designed to work predominantly with people with epilepsy and cerebral palsy.
The new centre will be managed by the Association of Parents of Children with Epilepsy (APCE) and will provide support to 25 people, APCE chair Veska Sabeva told BTA. She explained that as epilepsy seizures are unpredictable, some care facilities refuse to accept people with this condition.
There are plans to open an epilepsy care centre in Targovishte as wall, Sabeva noted.
Quality day care enables people in the centre to lead a full life, and their families to be an active part of society, Deputy Labor and Social Policy Minister Ivan Krastev emphasized. He pointed out that social services in such a center are not only day care, as counseling, occupational therapy, and many more services are provided as well. "The disease should not be a stigma and our country is actively working to develop a full-fledged network of social services," Krastev stated.
He added that the financing of social services in Bulgaria is BGN 1.51 billion for 2025 and expressed hope that the funds will be increased for 2026.
