The terrarium at the Mineralni Bani [mineral baths] resort will keep the exotic animals that were seized at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint in 2024 during an attempted smuggling, the Svilengrad Customs Agency said on Friday.
The seized specimens include leopard geckos and tarantulas of various species, which were seized on October 30, 2024, during an attempted illegal trafficking from Bulgaria to Turkiye. Immediately after their seizure, the animals were transferred for temporary storage to the terrarium in Mineralni Bani, where they were provided with appropriate conditions and food. After the conclusion of the administrative-criminal proceedings, the animals' stay in the terrarium has now been formally legalized.
The Svilengrad Customs Agency indicated that their provision will enable some of the specimens to be relocated to other terrariums in the country as well.
