Bulgaria is among the top countries for the number of lesser spotted eagle pairs, shows a study within the LIFE for Eagle's Habitat project that was presented on Wednesday by experts of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds. The data also show that Bulgaria is a migration route for the species and a key location for nesting, the Executive Forests Agency reported.

According to the experts, these results stem from the good condition and management of forests in the studies areas in Southeastern and Northeastern Bulgaria, where the project is being implemented.

The experts also presented interesting results obtained through tracker-equipped lesser spotted eagles. Seven out of the 12 tracking devices placed since the project's start are still active, helping make conclusions and an analysis that are one of a kind in the Balkans.

The LIFE for Eagle's Habitat project is implemented by the Executive Forests Agency in partnership with the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, Southeast State Enterprise, and Northeast State Enterprise.
