Vratsa - 150 Years of the April Uprising
Vratsa (January 29, 2026) – Memorial sites in Vratsa linked to the events of 1876 and the April Uprising were honored as part of the initiative of Bulgarian National Television (BNT), the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) and Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) titled “14 Centuries of Bulgaria in Europe.” BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Sofia University Rector Prof. Georgi Valchev, BNT Panorama host Boyko Vassilev, Vratsa Mayor Kalin Kamenov, Vratsa Deputy Mayor for Sports, Tourism and Culture Alexander Vladimirov, and public figure and documentary filmmaker Hristo Iliev laid flowers at the monument to Hristo Botev in the central square of Vratsa and at the memorial plaque mounted on a building that once housed the inn of the renowned Vratsa revolutionary, Botev chetnik, and public and political figure Stefanaki Savov. Flowers were also laid at the memorial plaque in the courtyard of the memorial church of St. Sophronius, Bishop of Vratsa, known among local residents as Holy Ascension, where fallen Botev chetniks are buried.
