The 104th Convention of the Macedonian Patriotic Organisation (MPO) in the US and Canada was held in Chicago between 29 August and 1 September. This was announced by Svetoslav Stankov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Chicago, on his Facebook profile on Tuesday.
The organization is described in the post as "a century-long guardian of the cultural heritage of Macedonian Bulgarians in America".
During the convention, multiple decisions were made, including one for restoring the MPO clubs Rodina in the US state of Indiana and Bratya Miladinovi in the city of Los Angeles. It was also decided to continue the digitalization of MPO’s archives. Lastly, it was decided that the MPO’s Macedonian Tribune newspaper, will now be available to the general public.
Official guests of the convention were Prof. Georgi Nikolov and Assoc. Prof. Naum Kaytchev of the Macedonian Scientific Institute – Sofia (founded in 1923), as well as Dr. Andrey Kovatchev, Member of the European Parliament and head of the Bulgarian delegation in the European Parliament.
During the convention, members of the Pirin Club – Chicago organized a lecture dedicated to the women revolutionaries of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization and a screening of a film dedicated to the revolutionary Mara Buneva, The Avenger.
The convention programme also included performances by the Vivanov Ensemble – Chicago and singer Sonya Membrano, who performed songs from the Macedonian region.
