A branch of the Odesa International Humanitarian University (IHU) will open in Bolhrad, the City Council has announced in a Facebook post. The initiative is being implemented with the support of Bolhrad Mayor Serhiy Dymytriyev, IHU President Sergiy Kivalov and the University leadership.

The project to establish the Bessarabian Institute under the Odesa IHU was presented at the 2025 International Bessarabian Economic Forum as a social and educational initiative aimed at expanding opportunities for higher and vocational education for young people in the region, the publication stated.

The institute will offer training in 36 specialties across eight faculties. The branch is expected to begin operations in the 2025–2026 academic year, providing a more accessible educational hub for students from the Bessarabian region.

The Bolhrad municipal administration emphasized that the opening of the branch will be an important catalyst for the development of the local community and will support the educational and social growth of the region’s youth.

The city of Bolhrad serves as the administrative centre of Bolhrad Region, established as part of Ukraine’s administrative-territorial reform on July 17, 2020. The region includes 10 municipalities, with over 60% of the population being of Bulgarian origin.
