A news conference on the EU-funded project “Clean Areas, Green and Open Streets” was held in Taraclia. Representatives of the project’s partner countries Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine and Moldova attended the event.

Taraclia District Chair Lazar Dermenji said the project offers concrete environmental solutions. One of the main results in Taraclia will be the building of a Peace Park as a modern public space with green areas, sport zones, a “smart tree” with solar power panels and an environmental education system.

Valentin Dimitrov, Mayor of General Toshevo in Bulgaria, spoke about repairing the local outdoor cinema, creating art zones and implementing eco initiatives.

Representatives of Bolhrad (Bolgrad), Ukraine briefed their partners on the renovation of a boulevard, landscaping activities and educational campaigns.

A delegation from Murfatlar, Romania presented an undertaking to rehabilitate a park in the village of Siminoc.

Taraclia also hosted a seminar on the New European Bauhaus initiative, which calls on all Europeans to imagine and build a sustainable and inclusive future that is beautiful for our eyes, minds, and souls. The seminar was attended by educators, experts and NGO representatives from the partner countries.

The project “Clean Areas, Green and Open Streets” is implemented in the framework of the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme. The budget of the project is EUR 1.49 million, including EUR 1.3 million provided by the European Union. It is aimed at protecting nature and biodiversity, developing green infrastructure and improving the quality of life. Its deadline is December 2026.

In Taraclia District, there are 24 villages and two towns (Taraclia and Tvardita) with a compact Bulgarian population accounting for more than half of the total population in each place. Across the district, ethnic Bulgarians are 66.1% of the total population.
