A methodological seminar for Bulgarian language and literature teachers and for History, Culture and Traditions of the Bulgarian People teachers was held at the Bulgarian Language and Cultural Centre in Gagauzia's Comrat State University, the centre told BTA on Wednesday.
The subject of History, Culture and Traditions of the Bulgarian People is taught as a separate discipline in Bulgarian schools in Moldova, including in Taraclia District and Gagauzia.
Maria Delibaltova, who is seconded to Comrat by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science, said that the forum brought together teachers from the region and served as a platform for exchanging professional experience, best practices, and methodological approaches to teaching Bulgarian language and culture.
Participants noted the innovative approach and high level of engagement among teachers. The seminar also included an analysis of the results of the regional round of the Bulgarian language and literature Olympiad.
Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia is the only administrative autonomy within the Republic of Moldova. It has its own legislative body, the People’s Assembly, as well as an executive authority headed by the Bashkan. According to the latest official data from 2024, the population of the autonomy is 103,668. Gagauz people make up approximately 82-83% of the population, while the remainder consists of Moldovans, Russians, Ukrainians, Bulgarians, and other ethnic groups. The Bulgarian community in Gagauzia is relatively small but historically established, accounting for about 5% of the region's population.
