The Sborna Druzhina dance ensemble in London and Brighton, England, will perform Shopski Zadevki at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling folklore festival, which will take place from May 15 to 17 at BMW Park in Munich, Germany.
Daniela Georgieva, head of the troupe, emphasized that the dance carries the inimitable witty, playful and temperamental spirit of the Shopi people, a region in Western Bulgaria. "We chose it because it is like a small theatre, as it has humor, character and that Shopian lyutenitsa of emotions that always wins over the audience”, she noted.
“The message is related to humanity, namely that when there is teasing, laughter and a good mood, people come together. The dance reminds us that life is easier when we share it with a smile," Georgieva pointed out.
She said that the rehearsals with which the ensemble prepares for the festival are a real adventure, a lot of work, a lot of laughter and a lot of desire to show the best of themselves. "There is sweat in the hall, but also a lot of joy and that is exactly how a good dance is born," Georgieva noted.
The travelling festival is organized by and for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative was launched by the "Ot Izvora" group in Lyon, France, which hosted both the first edition in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. More than 100 dance ensembles and over 4,000 guests are expected at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance in Munich in May. The Bulgarian News Agency is the official media partner of the event and will present all participants.
