A quality tourism product requires coordinated efforts and rapid, transparent communication between the media and State authorities, Bulgarian National Television (BNT) Management Board member Vera Alexandrova said Monday.

Alexandrova was speaking at the BG Tourism - Summer 2026 forum, organized by BTA at Aqua Vista Hall in the Ensana Aquahouse hotel in the Sts. Constantine and Helena resort.

She highlighted public television’s commitment to the tourism sector and proposed concrete steps to improve communication among businesses, the State and the media. Tourism is firmly present in BNT’s programming through dedicated shows such as Tourism.bg, Number 1 – Tourism, Our Place – Bulgaria, and The Altars of Bulgaria, which focuses on religious tourism, she said.

Alexandrova cited the success of a joint segment with the Ministry of Tourism, broadcast immediately after the weather forecast, which features short video profiles of notable destinations. She also noted the indirect promotion of Bulgaria’s tourism through cinema, pointing to the Kom-Emine series and its use of the Balkan Mountains as a natural backdrop to the story.

Negative developments cannot be concealed, Alexandrova said, adding that institutions must immediately provide authoritative spokespeople to explain the measures being taken and present all viewpoints on the day of the event.

She said tourism content should also target Bulgarians abroad, with BNT 4 positioned to become a key bridge to compatriots outside the country. The aim is to use suitable content to encourage them to spend their summer and winter holidays in Bulgaria, as they are an extremely loyal and important audience.

Alexandrova also raised the issue of financial constraints, saying funding for large-scale media projects of this kind is often insufficient.
