In uncertain times marked by wars and rising transport costs, Bulgaria offers safety and peace, said BTA Director General Kiril Valchev at the opening of the BG Tourism – Summer 2026 forum in the St. St. Constantine and Elena resort near Varna on Monday.

He noted that BTA is organizing the forum for the ninth time to discuss clear messages for promoting Bulgarian tourism ahead of the summer season, bringing together media leaders, institutions, tourism businesses, NGOs, universities, and experts to shape Bulgaria’s tourism message.

Three key strengths developed over recent years were highlighted by Valchev: safe vacations, affordable travel, and Bulgaria’s natural and cultural attractions. According to him, Bulgaria remains a secure and competitively priced destination, especially amid conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East and growing fuel-related travel costs.

He also noted that BTA, with support from tourism organizations and the Tourism Ministry, published a catalogue of Bulgarian SPA resorts for participants in the upcoming European Spas Association (ESPA) Congress, which will take place from May 11 to 13 in Varna. "In fact, SPA, besides being an acronym from the Latin sanus per aquam, meaing health through water, can also mean safe, peace, approach, that is, security, peace, closeness", Valchev concluded.
