One crew member was killed and five others were injured in a drone attack on civilian vessels in the Black Sea on Thursday evening, Odesa Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kiper said on Telegram.

Two ships sailing under the flags of Panama and Saint Kitts and Nevis were attacked while departing from ports, Kiper said.

According to him, one crew member was killed and two others were injured aboard one of the vessels. Three crew members were injured on the second ship.

The ships have since resumed their voyages, while port infrastructure remains operational, Kiper added.

He said the attacks are further evidence of the deliberate killing of civilians and a threat to global food security.

Bulgarians in the Odesa region number more than 150,000 and are the third largest population group in Ukraine, according to the latest official census data. About 50,000-60,000 Bulgarians live in the city of Odesa itself. The largest compact Bulgarian population is concentrated in the Bolhrad, Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
