The Co-president of the European liberals, Ilhan Kyuchyuk initiated collection of signatures of Members of the European Parliament, launching a cross-party initiative in support of the investigative journalist Hristo Grozev, the press office of the Bulgarian MEP informed.

Kyuchyuk calls for a Europe-wide protection of journalist Hristo Grozev and sent written questions to the High Representative of the European Union, Josep Borrell.

The text points out that, in addition to investigating the poisoning of opposition leader Alexey Navalny, Grozev is the most prominent Bulgarian journalist in Ukraine, who has proven through his work that he could unveil and expose the treacheries of the Russian special services.

"The announced search for the journalist, winner of The European Press Prize for investigative journalism, raises a number of issues that directly and indirectly affect the security of European citizens", the MEP wrote.

In his written question, the MEP demands answers to the questions: will the EU High Representative (HR/VP) strongly condemn the measure announced by the Russian Federation against the investigative journalist Hristo Grozev and will he demand its immediate removal; how does the EU intend to provide Grozev and other independent journalists who are wanted by the Russian Federation with the necessary protection; how does the HR/VP intend to ensure that similar violations of human rights and freedoms against other European citizens will be prevented in the future?

Yesterday, the MRF urged that the Bulgarian state must categorically protect its citizens and insists on clarification of the case of journalist Hristo Grozev. MRF President Mustafa Karadayi wrote on his Facebook page “The (Bulgarian) Minister of Foreign Affairs needs to react immediately. The protection of fundamental freedoms and civil rights, the right to assert an objective journalistic position are among the main priorities of the MRF and we will not stop demanding that state institutions be active."
