Sofia, January 21 (BTA) - The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria reached 860,877, after 39,445 tests identified 8,932 new infections on Thursday, 77.2 per cent of which were of unvaccinated persons, according to data posted on https://coronavirus.bg/. The test positivity rate now stands at 22.6 per cent.

Sofia tops the list of new cases with 2,644 positive tests, followed by Plovdiv with 835 cases and Varna with 609.

The active cases are 187,765. Currently, the hospitalized patients number 5,198, including 530 in intensive care. Of the 529 hospital admissions, 81.5 per cent were not vaccinated.

The infected medical staff have reached 19,316.

Another 381 COVID-19 patients have recovered over the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 640,594.

Eighty-seven fatalities were reported (89.7 per cent unvaccinated), and the death toll now adds up to 32,518.

With 19,191 new inoculations over the last 24 hours, 4,078,145 vaccine doses have been administered so far, 1,973,224 people are fully vaccinated, and 555,333 have received a booster jab.
