Sofia, August 30 (BTA) - The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria reached 451,599, after 7,695 tests identified 451 new infections on Sunday, according to data posted Monday on the national coronavirus information platform at https://coronavirus.bg/. The test positivity rate now stands at 5.9 per cent.

Sofia City Region tops the list of new cases with 66 positive tests, followed by Varna Region with 64 cases and Burgas Region with 36.

The active cases are 28,512. Currently, the hospitalized patients number 3,451, including 298 in intensive care.

Twenty-six fatalities are reported, and the death toll now adds up to 18,731.

With 2,540 new inoculations over the last 24 hours, 2,288,715 persons in aggregate have received a coronavirus vaccination so far, including 1,156,729 who are fully vaccinated.

Out of a total of 394 clinical samples, taken from COVID-19 patients between July 21 and August 18, 2021, sent by 64 medical-treatment facilities in 26 administrative regions, 389 have tested positive for the Delta variant of the coronavirus, the National Centre of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases reported on Monday. Most Delta variant samples have been detected in Sofia, Plovdiv, Rousse, Varna, Stara Zagora and Pazardjik, including 11 foreigners in Blagoevgrad, Varna and Sofia City.

By August 18, 272 of those patients were treated at home, 60 were hospitalized, 40 had recovered, and 17 had died. RY/LG
