from South Africa
on Romanian Evacuation Flight

Sofia, November 30 (BTA) - Ten Bulgarian citizens were repatriated Monday night from the Republic of South Africa with the assistance of the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry's press centre said.

The Bulgarians took off on an Romanian evacuation flight along with Romanian and other EU citizens.

The Bulgarian embassies in Pretoria and Bucharest have actively assisted in organizing the return of Bulgarian citizens to their homeland. The Bulgarians were the second largest group on board the plane after that of the Romanian citizens. They
took off at 3 am on November 30 from Johannesburg International Airport on a flight to Bucharest with a technical landing in Mombasa, Kenya. The Bulgarian Embassy in Bucharest has created the necessary organization for welcoming the Bulgarian
passengers in the Romanian capital and transporting them to Ruse.

According to the Bulgarian embassy in South Africa the situation in connection with the newly discovered strain of COVID-19 Omicron is gradually normalizing, as foreign airlines, which had discontinued flights to the region, are beginning to reinstate them as of Tuesday.

The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry expressed its gratitude to the Romanian partners for their assistance in the transportation of Bulgarian citizens. MY/DT
