Test Positivity Rate at 14.3%


Sofia, January 7 (BTA) - The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria reached 770,001, after 38,427 tests identified 5,525 new infections on Thursday, 71.42 per cent of which were of unvaccinated persons, according to data posted on https://coronavirus.bg/. The test positivity rate now stands at 14.3 per cent.

The active cases are 121,178. Currently, the hospitalized patients number 4,790, including 509 in intensive care. Of the 603 latest hospital admissions, 82.92% per cent were not vaccinated.

Another 1,684 COVID-19 patients have recovered over the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 617,448.

Seventy-two fatalities were reported (97.22% per cent unvaccinated), and the death toll now adds up to 31,375.

With 35,177 new inoculations over the last 24 hours, 3,804,111 vaccine doses have been administered so far. Some 1,933,230 people are fully vaccinated, and 350,046 have received a booster jab.

The Ministry of Health said that 4,800 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 were delivered to Bulgaria today. They are intended for primary vaccination (first and second dose) and will be distributed among the regional health inspectorates across the country according to the quantities preordered. Deliveries of the vaccine in Bulgaria have been suspended due to low interest in this product, the press service added. Following reports from regional health inspectorates of people wishing to be inoculated with the AstraZeneca jab, Bulgaria has provided the vaccine.
