Prime Minister Rumen Radev and Israeli historian and politician Prof. Michael Bar-Zohar discussed ways to raise awareness of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews during the Second World War, including through the film industry, the Council of Ministers said in Facebook post.

Prime Minister Radev highlighted Prof. Bar-Zohar's significant contribution to preserving and upholding the historical truth about this humanitarian act by Bulgaria, and to preventing ideological distortions and biased narratives from misrepresenting or diminishing it. During the meeting, the Prime Minister also noted that generations of Bulgarians remain grateful to Prof. Michael Bar-Zohar for his efforts to preserve historical memory and to present the truth that Bulgaria did not allow the deportation of its Jewish community to the Nazi death camps during the Second World War, the government said.

The two rallied around the view that the rescue of Bulgarian Jews stands as a remarkable example of humanity and tolerance in Europe, and that it is important for this story to be told more widely and become better known internationally.

March 10, 2026, marked the 83rd anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews. On the same date in 2024, a street in the village of Gorsko Slivovo, Lovech Region, was renamed in honor of Israeli author, historian, and public figure Prof. Michael Bar-Zohar.
