At midnight on April 30, 2026, in the first minutes of International Jazz Day, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) announced the establishment of a National Jazz Press Club at the In the Mood Jazz Club in Sofia. The event was attended by Natali Neykova and Vasil Karkelanov, as well as Vicky Almazidou, Antoni Donchev, and Vasil Hadjigrudev. Among the guests at the symbolic opening of the Jazz Press Club were also the Director General of the Bulgarian National Radio (Bulgarian National Radio), Milen Mitev, and journalist and host of the “Panorama” programme on Bulgarian National Television (Bulgarian National Television), Boyko Vassilev.

“When BTA reports on festivals, as an example for other Bulgarian media, it tries to encourage the use of the names of those who organize and support them, because this is not advertising but another opportunity to support Bulgarian culture,” said BTA Director General Kiril Valchev.

In recent years, BTA has systematically supported numerous festivals held in Bulgaria, including jazz and jazz-related events, by promoting them not only within the country but also around the world through the Agency’s English-language service.

The Jazz Press Club is the third mobile press club, following the Book Press Club at book fairs and the press club aboard the Bulgarian naval research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii during its voyages to Antarctica and back.

As part of the event, a media partnership agreement was also signed between BTA and the Milcho Leviev Association for Culture and Education. The agreement was signed by Kiril Valchev and Vicky Almazidou.
