On the night of Tuesday, September 2, Russia carried out drone attacks on several settlements in Ukraine. The Ukrainian Danube city of Izmail, as well as the region around it, were subjected to a massive drone attack for nearly two hours, the regional administration reported on Facebook.

Russian forces once again attacked the port infrastructure in the Izmail district of the Odesa region. The fires caused by the strikes were quickly extinguished by firefighters.

"Thanks to the timely response to the threat, significant destruction and human casualties were prevented," the regional administration said in the statement.

Bulgarians in the Odesa region number more than 150,000 and were the third largest population group in Ukraine in 2001, according to the official census. About 50,000 - 60,000 Bulgarians live in the city of Odesa itself. The largest compact Bulgarian population is concentrated in the Bolhrad, Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
