A Bulgarian visa office officially opened at the VFS Global Application Centre in Baghdad, Iraq, on August 4, the Bulgarian diplomatic mission in the country said on its website on Wednesday.

"Charge d'Affaires Nikola Draganov said that this is a historic moment in bilateral relations. For the first time since 2003, Iraqi citizens will be able to apply for certain visa categories from within Iraq," the Bulgarian Embassy noted.

The visa services will be provided through the partner organization, VFS Global, according to the website. The diplomatic mission added that the opening of the office marks a "very important step" in fostering strong and friendly ties between Bulgaria and Iraq.

The move reaffirms Bulgaria’s commitment to delivering high-quality services to visa applicants and aligns with the growing momentum in bilateral relations. It reflects an ambition to deepen cooperation in trade, agriculture, the defence industry, culture, and higher education.
