site.btaTwo Killed, Three Injured in Russian Attack on Moldovan Border Checkpoint in Odesa Region

Two people were killed and three were injured after an overnight attack on the Starokozache border checkpoint with Moldova in the Odesa region, the head of the Odesa regional military administration, Oleg Kiper, reported on his Telegram channel on Wednesday.

According to Kiper, the dead and injured were civilians who were near the checkpoint. Another 16 people were evacuated by rescuers. Fires broke out, and the infrastructure of the checkpoint and the surrounding area was destroyed.

The border checkpoint has suspended its operations due to the night attack by drones, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported on its Telegram channel.

More than 150,000 Bulgarians live in the Odesa region, making them the region’s third-largest ethnic community, according to Ukraine’s latest official census. An estimated 50,000 to 60,000 Bulgarians live in Odesa city. The largest concentrations of the Bulgarian community are in the Bolhrad, Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
