site.btaUPDATED Bulgarian Woman Reported Safe after Being Listed as Missing Following Nepal-China Floods

The Bulgarian included on the official list of foreign nationals reported as missing after catastrophic flash floods in the border area between Nepal and China's autonomous region of Tibet is the same woman who, according to the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, received assistance from the Bulgarian Embassy in New Delhi in obtaining a temporary passport after the disaster. Therefore, she can now be removed from the list, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry told BTA on Thursday in an update on the situation.

That was the only Bulgarian citizen who appeared on the list of missing foreigners published on the website of the Nepal Tourism Board.

Earlier in the day, the Foreign Ministry said that a Bulgarian citizen in Nepal had contacted the Bulgarian diplomatic mission in New Delhi. She was safe but had lost her personal documents. The embassy in New Delhi provided her with remote assistance in obtaining a temporary passport from a diplomatic mission of an EU member state in Nepal.

The Foreign Ministry also said in its initial communication with BTA that the Bulgarian Embassy in Beijing had assisted a Bulgarian citizen in contacting his wife, who was travelling as part of an organized group in the affected region. She is safe and is currently in Tibet.

The number of confirmed deaths in the floods in Nepal has risen to 270, Nepalese police said, as quoted by Agence France-Presse (AFP). Chinese authorities, meanwhile, confirmed the deaths of three people in Tibet. The total number of deaths in the two countries has therefore reached 273, while more than 1,300 people remain missing, AFP reported.
