Ukraine and Bulgaria are working to launch a passenger rail link via Romania, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba said after meeting caretaker Minister of Transport and Communications Korman Ismailov on Monday. Ismailov is in in Kyiv as part of a government delegation, led by caretaker PM Andrey Gurov.

The aim is to run a trial service this summer, while the talks also covered transport corridors, border digitization and Black Sea shipping safety.

He said a separate focus was the development of strategic transport corridors, the Danube cluster and road infrastructure.

“We will continue to cooperate in road transport and will work to hold a meeting of the joint commission,” Kuleba said.

During the meeting, the representatives of Ukraine and Bulgaria also discussed digital solutions, in particular the electronic border queue.

“We discussed cooperation on shipping safety in the Black Sea. We expect to reach agreement on an intergovernmental maritime search and safety agreement this year,” Kuleba said.

The Ukrainian deputy prime minister thanked Ismailov for the constructive dialogue and shared vision for developing cooperation in the transport sector.
