Two people have died and 12 others have been injured, including a child, as a result of a Russian strike on civilian infrastructure in Odesa during the massive attack overnight on the Ukrainian port city, the head of the Odesa City Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, said on his Telegram channel on Saturday.
According to Lysak, 12 people, including a child, have been injured. All the injured are receiving the necessary medical assistance.
A strike has been recorded on the roof of one of the maternity hospitals in Odesa. Staff and patients from the maternity hospital affected by the attack have been evacuated, Lysak’s post said.
In the Prymorskyi district, there is significant damage to residential buildings.
Damage to balconies, broken windows and fires on the upper floors have been reported in multi-storey buildings.
Fires in residential buildings have been extinguished. More than 10 vehicles have been damaged.
Reports have been received of fires in the Khadzhibeyskyi district – in apartments and on the roof of a five-storey building.
Emergency centres have been set up in buses and tents. Specialists are working to restore the damaged infrastructure.
Bulgarians in Odesa Region number more than 150,000 and were the third largest population group in Ukraine in 2001, according to the official census. About 50,000 - 60,000 Bulgarians live in the city of Odesa. The largest compact Bulgarian population is concentrated in the Bolhrad, Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
