GERB Party leader conferred here on Monday with US Congressman Pat Fallon, a Republican from Texas. Outgoing Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev and outgoing Interior Minister Daniel Mitov took part in the meeting.
"The strategic partnership between Bulgaria and the US is key to the security and stability of our country and the entire region," Borissov posted on Facebook after the session, adding that "the US is our trusted ally and strategic partner with which we share common values, goals and responsibilities".
The sides discussed opportunities for further deepening of cooperation with an emphasis on security, defence, energy, and artificial intelligence. "We reaffirmed our political will to intensify dialogue with the US Congress and to upgrade our strategic cooperation," Borissov pointed out.
He added that the Third Session of the Bulgaria-US Strategic Dialogue, which took place in Sofia on December 9, 2025, found substantial progress in energy diversification, defence, security, trade and investment, computer technologies and AI.
Energy security and diversification are of special importance. "Bulgaria is working actively to reduce its dependence on a single source and to establish itself as a reliable energy partner in Southeastern Europe. The launch into operation of the LNG terminal in Alexandroupolis and the progress on the Vertical Gas Corridor open up tangible opportunities for supplies, including of liquefied natural gas from the US," the GERB wrote further.
"We confirmed our commitment to the implementation of the Kozloduy N-Plan Units 7 and 8 using the US AP1000 reactors, which is strategic for both our energy independence and for Bulgaria's economic development and role as a regional energy hub," Borissov pointed out.
