As a result of a massive overnight drone attack on Odesa and the surrounding region, damage has been inflicted on the city’s energy infrastructure, the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, announced on his Telegram channel.
“Warehouses, an administrative building and a garage were also affected. Fires broke out at the scene and were extinguished by firefighters. There is no information about any killed or injured,” Kiper’s statement said.
Because of the attack, several settlements near the Ukrainian Black Sea city are temporarily without electricity. Work is underway to restore power supply, with critical infrastructure currently being powered by generators, the regional governor added.
An air raid alert was declared in Odesa and the region at 08:43 this morning.
Drones are flying from the Black Sea toward Odesa, Yuzhne and Chornomorsk, according to local Telegram channels. Local authorities are urging residents to take shelter in bomb shelters.
Odesa Region is home to the third largest community of expatriate Bulgarians, numbering more than 150,000 people, according to an official population census in Ukraine in 2001. Between 50,000 and 60,000 Bulgarians live in the regional capital, Odesa. Bulgarians in the region are concentrated in the districts of Bolhrad, Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi.
