site.btaBulgaria Ready to Support Moldova on Its EU Accession Path, Says National Assembly Chair
Bulgaria is ready to support Moldova on its path towards EU accession by sharing valuable experience in all areas of the integration process, said National Assembly Chair Raya Nazaryan during a meeting with Moldovan Parliament President Igor Grosu, the parliamentary press service reported on Monday. The discussion took place within the framework of the Fourth Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform in Stockholm, Sweden.
Nazaryan expressed unwavering support for the decision of the Moldovan government and people to pursue a pro-European course of development, confirmed in the referendum held on October 20, 2024. She noted that the principle of own merits remains the cornerstone of the accession process. “We welcome Moldova’s strong political will and continued commitment to decisively implement a reform agenda focused on strengthening the rule of law, tackling corruption, and building strong and sustainable institutions,” she added.
The Bulgarian Parliament Chair also highlighted the positive framework established by the Moldovan authorities for preserving the national, cultural and linguistic identity of the Bulgarian community in the country. “Our country insists on finding appropriate solutions to ensure legal guarantees for maintaining the Taraclia District as a separate territorial unit, or as a distinct unit within a larger administrative-territorial structure, with a degree of autonomy and opportunities for local self-government in the cultural and educational sphere,” Nazaryan said.
Moldovan Parliament President Igor Grosu emphasized the strong bilateral relations and said that Moldova counts on Bulgaria’s support in the EU integration process. Grosu also highlighted the importance of cooperation in energy security and Bulgaria’s regional role, including providing alternative natural gas supplies.
