Sofia will host the 52nd European Leagues General Assembly on Wednesday and Thursday, bringing together senior representatives of more than 40 football leagues and leading international bodies, the Bulgarian Football Union said here Tuesday.

Delegates from Europe’s top five domestic leagues will attend, alongside representatives of FIFA, UEFA, the European Commission, FIFPRO Europe, Football Supporters Europe, European Football Clubs and the Union of European Clubs.

Hosted by the Bulgarian Professional Football League (BPFL), the event is the key fixture in the organization’s annual calendar.

BPFL President Atanas Karaivanov and BFU President Georgi Ivanov will attend the European Leagues General Assembly.

The event features an intensive programme, highlighted by a special working seminar on March 11 involving representatives of leading Bulgarian clubs and key stakeholders from the national football ecosystem. Focused on direct know-how exchange between European leagues, the seminar will see officials from the leagues of Czechia, Ireland and Slovakia present successful development models, profitable commercial strategies and effective approaches to cooperation with national federations.

The event will culminate in the General Assembly on Thursday, where key decisions on the future of European club football will be debated and adopted, including on the competition calendar, the distribution of solidarity payments from European club competitions and the protection of the competitiveness of domestic leagues.
