Information meetings held on Monday in Vidin, Smyadovo, Straldzha, Sadovo, Antonovo and Yakoruda as part of the national information campaign on Bulgaria’s adoption of the euro, focused on practical aspects of the transition and measures to protect citizens and businesses.

Experts explained the main stages and timeline for the introduction of the euro, the rules for dual price display, and issues related to tax and social security declarations, bank accounts, and interest rates.

The true measure of the success of the process of introducing the euro in Bulgaria is the benefits for citizens, said Bulgarian National Bank Governing Council Member Iliya Lingorski in Vidin. Vidin Regional Governor Ani Harutyunyan emphasized that the euro will be a platform for trust and greater security. The euro will provide significant financial stability to business and will help develop all sectors, Vidin Mayor Tsvetan Tsenkov pointed out.

In Smyadovo, representatives of the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) and the National Revenue Agency (NRA) reminded retailers that the grace period for dual price display has already expired.

At the meeting in Straldzha, experts emphasized that social services and local authorities will play a key role during the euro changeover. They also reported that inspections are being carried out to ensure that receipts correctly display prices in both leva and euro and that the official exchange rate is applied.

Labour contracts and loans will be converted automatically, representatives of the CPC told participants in Antonovo. They added that starting in January 2026, the Commission will monitor whether cash change is correctly returned in euros.

During the meetings in Sadovo and Yakoruda, CPC experts highlighted that the requirement for dual price display in leva and euro will remain in effect until August 8, 2026.
