Parliament faces several challenges, starting with the 2026 state budget and the smooth transition to the euro, National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova said here on Saturday. She was speaking at the 16th Congress of the Bulgarian Social Democracy - Euroleft party. According to her, the third challenge will be how to prevent businesses and people from experiencing "shock waves" in the process of adopting the euro.
"Left-wing solutions are our best answer to the question of how we can live in a more just and social society," Kiselova said. Joining the eurozone, where all countries have different types of taxation, will raise the question of how to reduce the serious income gap that has emerged, she commented.
Kiselova acknowledged the role of the BSP - United Left in the Government. "What we managed to do was to get a declaration from the National Assembly that we would not send Bulgarian military personnel to the conflict," she said regarding the war in Ukraine. "We raised an issue that I think is very important, and that is for Bulgaria to have independence in its energy projects," she noted. According to her, the coalition is able to contribute to ensuring that "in certain critical situations, there is also a social aspect to public finances."
