The prices of some staple foods dropped in the past week, according to the latest data from the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets.
The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria declined by just 0.08% to 2.405 points in the week ending May 2. In the previous week, the index stood at 2.407 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.
The price of poultry dropped by 0.8% to BGN 6.70/kg. White brined cheese from cow's milk went down by 1.5% to BGN 11.32 per kilogramme. Yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type was unchanged at BGN 18.46/kg.
The wholesale price of eggs (size M) was BGN 0.35 per unit, down by 0.7%. Butter from cow's milk depreciated by 0.8% to BGN 3.14 per 125 grammes.
The price of yogurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) went up by 1.6% to BGN 1.39 per 400 grammes. Milk (with a fat content of 3%) gained 0.4% to BGN 2.42 per litre.
Rice gained 1.9% to BGN 3.39/kg. Lentils lost 1.5% to BGN 4.41/kg, and beans depreciated by 3.5% to BGN 4.28/kg.
Flour (Grade 500) lost 3.4% to BGN 1.43/kg. Sunflower oil depreciated by 0.5% to BGN 3.24/litre. Sugar depreciated by 0.8% to BGN 1.80/kg.
Among vegetables, cucumbers dropped the most, by 10.7% to BGN 2.68/kg. Tomatoes went down by 5.9% to BGN 2.39/kg. Carrots lost 0.4% to BGN 1.25/kg.
Onions appreciated the most, by 13.4% to BGN 1.42/kg, followed by cabbage, which gained 10% to BGN 1.89/kg. Lettuce went up by 7% to BGN 1.07 per unit. Potatoes edged up by 3.2% to BGN 1.39/kg. New potatoes gained 6.1% to BGN 4.30/kg.
The wholesale price of oranges increased by 1.3% to BGN 2.27/kg. Bananas rose by 0.3% to BGN 2.88/kg. Apples were unchanged at BGN 1.85/kg. Lemons went down by 0.9% to BGN 2.76/kg.
