Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh participated in the opening of the tenth Chiprovtsi Carpet Festival in Chiprovtsi, Northwestern Bulgaria.

"Come to Chiprovtsi, here you will see things that are not found anywhere else in the world," the Minister said. "Chiprovtsi is an exceptional region with the magnificence of colours and shapes woven into the Chiprovtsi carpet. It is a great honour for us, who serve the state, to work to preserve this and develop it. This incredible creation, the Chiprovtsi carpet, must be seen by millions around the world and we will do everything possible to make it known. It is also our duty to preserve it as a tradition. The preservation of crafts is a priority of the united efforts of the government through the ministries of education, tourism and culture. Crafts distinguish us, they create an exceptional product. With them we can attract people from all over the world," Minister Borshosh said.

Deputy National Assembly Chair Rositsa Kirova, who also attended the opening of the festival, said: "Chiprovtsi preserves the Bulgarian spirit, its traditions and that beautiful embroidery. You enjoy the support of the Bulgarian government, which will promote what you are doing. What could be more beautiful for someone who wants to see Bulgaria? I congratulate the mayor of Chiprovtsi for what he is doing, restoring the craft, and bringing people from all over the world to see Chiprovtsi. I thank the Minister of Tourism for doing everything possible to promote Northwestern Bulgaria”

Miroslav Borshosh, Rositsa Kirova and the regional governor of Montana Kalin Haitov examined the Chiprovtsi kilims (flat-weave carpets) displayed at dozens of stalls and the panels, T-shirts, plates, etc. made by craftsmen with motifs of embroidery from the Chiprovtsi carpet. They attended a presentation of a review of Chiprovtsi carpets and local customs. In the afternoon, the festival will continue with exhibitions, children's drawings with motifs from Chiprovtsi carpets and concerts.
