site.btaDeposits of Households, NPISHs Rise by 11.4% in March, Loans Increase by 20.7%, Y/Y

In March, deposits of households and NPISHs (Non-profit institutions serving households) increased by 11.4% compared to the same month of 2024, show Bulgarian National Bank data published on Friday. They amounted to BGN 90.836 billion (42.5% of the country's gross domestic product).

Loans to households and NPISHs amounted to BGN 48.372 billion, marking an increase of 20.7% compared to March 2024. 

Deposits of non-financial corporations amounted to BGN 46.799 (21.9% of GDP) - 8% rise compared to the same month the previous year. 

Deposits of financial corporations increased by 18.3% annually in March 2025 amounting BGN 4.577 billion (2.1% of GDP). 

Deposits of the non-government sector reached BGN 142.212 billion (66.5% of GDP), increasing annually by 10.5%.

Claims on loans to the non-government sector amounted to BGN 106.494 billion (49.8% of GDP) compared to BGN 105.732 billion (49.5% of GDP) at the end of February 2025. They increased annually by 14.8%.

The change of loans to the non-government sector was influenced also by net sales of loans by Other monetary financial institutions (Other MFIs) - their volume for the last twelve months was BGN 135.8 million. On an annual basis, loans sold by Other MFIs were BGN 135.8 million (of which BGN 0.5 million in March 2025), while there were no loans repurchases for the last twelve months. 

Loans to Households and NPISHs were BGN 48.372 billion (22.6% of GDP) at the end of March 2025. They increased by 20.7% compared to the same month of 2024.

Loans for house purchases were BGN 27.031 billion and increased by 26.4% annually. 

Consumer loans amounted to BGN 19.454 billion and compared to March 2024 they rose by 14.6%.

On an annual basis other loans10 increased by 25.2% (26.7% annual growth in February 2025) and reached BGN 513.4 million.

Loans to Sole proprietorships and partnerships without legal status increased annually by 17.1% (19.2% annual growth in February 2025) reaching BGN 552.7 million. 

Loans granted to financial corporations were BGN 8.602 billion at the end of March 2025 (4% of GDP). Compared to March 2024, they increased by 12.9%.
