Starting from January 1, 2025, at least 5% of the monthly taxi journeys made from the airport should be completed using electric vehicles and a year later the percentage utilisation will come up to 10, Sofia Airport said here on Wednesday.

Additionally, Airport operator Sof Connect will incentivize the new taxi company to introduce more electric vehicles by waiving the fee per trip for electrical Taxi Vehicles.

From the end of June passengers will use the services of Yellow! The company was selected after a tender with the participation of the largest taxi companies in Sofia. The contract is for 5 years with an option for an additional 3, conditional on the performance and level of services offered, the Airport said.

At the airport, the company will ensure the constant presence of a team to monitor the quality of the service provided, ensuring the cleanliness of the vehicles and the responsiveness of the staff, who are also entrusted with the responsibility of assisting with the loading and unloading of customers’ luggage.

By signing the contract, the new taxi operator is committing to bringing more environmentally friendly vehicles to the airport.

“Having ground transportation to and from the airport is decisive for overall passenger experience. Choosing a company to provide a service in line with the highest standards in taxi service is a step to enhance passenger comfort and part of the airport’s customer-centric transformation,” said Jesus Caballero, CEO of Sofia Airport, at the signing of the contract.

Earlier in May, Sofia Airport operator SOF Connect announced its plans for accelerated investment until the end of 2025. More than BGN 50 million per year will be invested in the airport’s development over the next three years. As a result, the operator will invest BGN 60 million (two thirds) more than the amount set in the concession contract.
