Bulgaria is expected to continue following a stable growth trajectory, although economic growth is forecast to slow from 3.1% in 2025 to 2.7% in 2026 and 2.5% in 2027, Mateusz Dadej, Head of Economic Research for CEE region at credit insurer Coface, said. He presented the “CEE Sectoral Heatmap” study at a webinar on Wednesday.

Construction is the sector with the most favourable prospects in the country, supported by rising purchasing power, urbanisation, low borrowing costs and the growing number of approved building permits. The metals industry remains exposed to risks, as high energy prices, the withdrawal of electricity price compensation and weak demand in civil engineering continue to put pressure on competitiveness.

The services sector has the strongest growth prospects in CEE over the next two years amid the current economic situation, which is characterised by rising costs as a result of higher fuel prices. According to Dadej, the information and communications technology sector will also benefit from current economic developments, as household purchasing power in CEE is increasing, allowing consumers in the region to allocate increasingly larger budgets to goods and related equipment.

Dadej said road freight transport also has the potential to navigate the current situation, characterised by higher costs resulting from rising fuel prices, relatively successfully. According to him, transport businesses have the opportunity to pass some of these costs on through additional transport and delivery charges.

He said that when a country such as Germany exports less to China, this is offset by exports to other European Union countries, which in turn could benefit transport companies.

According to him, amid growing demand for such services, there may be grounds for optimism about the transport sector.
