Most vegetables registered price decreases on Bulgarian wholesale markets this week, while fruit prices continued to rise, data from the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets (SCEWT) showed on Sunday. The market price index dropped by 0.15% to 2.687 points.

The index, which tracks wholesale food prices in Bulgaria, stood at 2.691 points a week earlier. Its base level of 1.000 points was set in 2005.

Among vegetables, the sharpest decline was recorded for mature onions, whose price dropped by 9.86% to EUR 0.48 per kg. Prices also decreased for green peppers, down 6.03% to EUR 3.39 per kg, potatoes, down 2.7% to EUR 0.54 per kg, and tomatoes, down 1% to EUR 2.23 per kg.

Slight declines were also observed for cabbage, down 0.71% to EUR 0.70 per kg, red peppers, down 0.63% to EUR 3.56 per kg, and zucchini, down 0.49% to EUR 1.52 per kg.

Significant increases were reported for carrots, up 23.08% to EUR 0.80 per kg, and cucumbers, up 17.46% to EUR 1.80 per kg. Green salad prices also rose by 2.48% to EUR 0.93 per kg.

Among fruit, only oranges became cheaper, with prices falling by 4.36% to EUR 1.26 per kg. Apples recorded the highest increase, rising by 4.93% to EUR 1.33 per kg. Prices also went up for lemons, by 1.9% to EUR 2.15 per kg, and bananas, by 1.81% to EUR 1.55 per kg.

The price of white brined cow cheese increased by 1.04% to EUR 6.08 per kg, while Vitosha-type yellow cheese rose by 1.51% to EUR 9.75 per kg. Yogurt with 3% or higher fat content became cheaper by 1.45% and was sold at EUR 0.68 per 400-gramme container, while fresh milk fell by 0.21% to EUR 1.17 per litre. Cow butter, sold in 125-gramme packs, increased by 1.6% to EUR 1.43 per pack.

Frozen chicken meat became cheaper by 1.2% to EUR 3.70 per kg, while eggs size M fell by 1.1% to EUR 0.23 per piece wholesale.

Rice prices rose by 5.19% to EUR 1.60 per kg, while type 500 flour increased by 1.64% to EUR 0.75 per kg. A marginal decline was recorded for cooking oil, down 0.28% to EUR 1.75 per litre.

Mature beans and lentils became more expensive by 1.91% and 1.31%, respectively, with both sold at EUR 2.13 per kg. Sugar prices also increased by 0.82% to EUR 0.92 per kg.
