The export ban on insulin, its analogues, and certain antibiotics has been extended until January 23, 2026 by an order of Health Minister Silvi Kirilov, published on the Ministry’s website on Monday. The reasons for the export ban are difficulties in supplying pharmacies and patients, reports of shortages or refusals from wholesale warehouses, irregularities or delays in deliveries, or delivery of smaller quantities.
The export of medicines from pharmacological groups Insulins and analogues, SGLT2 inhibitors, Blood sugar-lowering drugs that are not insulins (with the international nonproprietary name Semaglutide), as well as antibiotics with the international nonproprietary name Azithromycin in the pharmaceutical forms powder for oral suspension and granules for oral suspension has been banned.
The export of medicines with the international nonproprietary name Mesalazine is also prohibited. The therapeutic indications for medicines with this international nonproprietary name include ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. In 79% of the regions in the country, shortages of the tablet form of the medicinal product have been reported.
