Sofia University will host the first national conference with international participation on open science in Bulgaria on Tuesday, the university said. The event, titled Scientist's Guide: In the Orbit of Open Science in Bulgaria, is part of the ORBIT project and will focus on the role of open science in the age of artificial intelligence.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Marta Teperek from the Dutch Research Council, who will present Open Science NL - a national initiative in the Netherlands aimed at accelerating the transition to open science. The initiative serves as a model for those looking to adopt open science practices in other national contexts where collaboration is key. Dr. Teperek’s talk will highlight innovative strategies for data sharing, digital transparency, and AI-driven research.

The programme will also feature sessions with Bulgarian researchers from a variety of disciplines who are applying open science principles in fields such as fighting fake news, ancient numismatics, and the use of open data and AI in education and finance. Special attention will be given to projects developed through the project's PhD mentoring programme.

With participants from leading universities, libraries, and NGOs, ORBIT is set to become one of Bulgaria’s key platforms for driving innovation in research and promoting societal engagement, Sofia University added.
